SugarFest

SugarFest is fun for visitors of all ages held on the first Sunday in October! Activities include 19th century folk life demonstrations, mule driven cane grinding, syrup boiling, tours of the museum’s sugar related exhibits, a sweets contest with celebrity judges, an old fashioned cake walk, and more. Plantation fare food items, drinks, and sugary treats will be available for purchase.

The Music

Musical genres include Blues, Bluegrass, Dixieland Jazz, Cajun/Zydeco, Classic Country, Spirituals, Celtic tunes, traditional folk music, acoustic Jazz, and youth ensembles. Songs performed at SugarFest largely reflect and celebrate south Louisiana culture and heritage.

The Sweets

Help West Baton Rouge Museum celebrate SugarFest by entering an old fashioned Sweets Contest hosted by the West Baton Rouge Historical Association! Make your best recipe in any of these sugar-filled categories– cookies, cakes, pies or candies. We encourage anyone wishing to show their support, but not feeling that competitive spirit, to consider donating cookies, cakes, pies and candies to help stock the Sweets Booth at SugarFest.
